Chemical-Free Surface Cleaning

With chemical-free floor maintenance slowly creeping into the market over the last couple of years, manufacturers have also begun focusing their attention on chemical-free surface cleaning. A few manufacturers in particular have recently released electrolyzed water systems that come in rechargeable hand-held sanitizing spray bottles.

With these systems, when it is time to clean, the custodial staff doesn’t have to mix any chemicals, all they have to do is go to a faucet and fill the bottle with water. When the user pulls the unit’s nozzle, a water cell applies a slight electrical charge to the tap water, which transforms it into an oxygen-rich mixture of positive and negative nano-bubbles. With the water in this state, it then acts like a cleaner that has surfactants in it by attracting dirt and lifting it from surfaces.

In fact, when used properly, these systems effectively remove 99.999 percent of bacteria from non-porous hard surfaces, including e-coli, staph, MRSA, listeria and salmonella. Tests also show the devices kill the H1N1 virus in six seconds and beyond that, do not require any additional dwell time to effectively sanitize non-porous hard-surfaces.

Cleaning personnel can use the devices to safely sanitize commonly touched surfaces in their facilities as well as clean glass and spot clean carpet.
