KBM Stays Sustainable With Restroom Cleaning System

Company Website

KBM Facility Solutions is headquartered in San Diego, Calif., but the contract cleaning company has a nationwide reach, serving the aerospace, technology, biotech, retail and other industries across several states. The 400 employees now on the KBM crew clean millions of square feet every day, with high-performance and sustainability a driving focus.

Paul Condie, KBM’s Operations Director, sees an important distinction between the science-based cleaning the company performs and misleading tactics that use environmental messaging to increase sales number, often referred to as “green-washing.” KBM relies on the (OS1) cleaning system, which trains specialists to perform specific cleaning roles in a structured team environment using ergonomic, sustainable tools.

“Our goal is to be truly sustainable, which encompasses design, performance, product life spans, and even packaging,” says Condie. “We use the Unger restroom cleaning system because several studies—on bacterial counts, on time and motion—demonstrate that it accomplishes the job in less time, more effectively and with improved safety.”

The Unger Simply Better restroom cleaning system comes complete in one package, with all tools ergonomically designed and color-coded in red to help workers reduce injuries and eliminate cross contamination.

“Color coding is a huge asset when training anyone,” notes Condie. “Unger’s chosen the right color. Red signals caution, and when dealing with cross-contamination, that’s a huge asset.”

A microfiber mop with a pivoting head works with a dual compartment bucket to improve sanitation while limiting body strain, water and chemical use. The Unger system also includes an ergonomic toilet brush and holder, solution sprayer for the belt, and microfiber cloths.

“It’s certainly more ergonomic and safer to use,” Condie comments. “Our employees have benefited across the board. We also use less water, because waste water is separate from the cleaning solution.”

With an eye on the future effects of cleaning processes in place today, KBM recognizes the financial and environmental impact of product life spans. Unger restroom cleaning tools have stood the test of time.

“We’ve never replaced a bucket,” Condie remarks. “The microfiber mop heads have a tremendous lifespan. The microfiber doesn’t knot up or shed, and it’s easy to clean.”

Since being founded in 1981, KBM has grown into a sustainable leader in the contract cleaning field, with Unger tools to back the company mission.
