Green Cleaning: Saving Money by Going Green
Xpress Cleaning Services, Ottawa, Canada, maintains many of the city's government buildings. Recently, the company was notified that only green cleaning contractors could maintain the city's buildings and that only certified, environmentally preferable cleaning products were allowed.
To help them transfer to green cleaning products, company executives contacted Phillippe Tessier of Swish Maintenance Limited, also in Ottawa.
"We worked with them, helping them select green cleaning products that not only meet the city's requirements," says Tessier, "but also perform as well the conventional products they had been using before."
The transfer went smoothly. Both the contractor and city administrators were satisfied with the green cleaning products and the appearance of their buildings.
Curious, city administrators wondered if the green cleaning products cost more than conventional. The contractor said that they were "cost neutral" and because the green cleaning products are so concentrated, the city actually save money
by going Green.
