Floor Care: Drag Racing Floor Machines

At first, it looked like a “drag racing” between three different floor machines over a gym floor. But, what was really happening is the three different machines were being put to the test: which machine was the easiest to handle, did the best job, and was most cost effective.

The test was conducted by Rita Vitaliano with Universal Building Services in Emeryville, Calif. Vitaliano, who owns both a contract cleaning company and is a jan/san distributor, was testing the three models not only for her own cleaning company, but for her customers as well.

One of the machines tested was Tornado’s® new P Series, 175-RPM floor machines. These 17- and 20-inch floor machines have a powerful 1.5 horsepower “cool-running" motor that delivers consistent speed for buffing, burnishing, and finishing floors.

A general-purpose maroon pad was attached to all three machines. One by one, the floor machines were carefully analyzed as they were operated over the gym floor.

Vitaliano admits she did not expect any of the floor machines to outshine the others — until she tested Tornado’s P Series. This machine “completed the job faster with greater ease and produced a noticeably glossier finish,” according to Vitaliano.

Vitaliano also noticed that the P Series have a single-piece, rotationally molded housing that helps make the machine light, tough, durable, and easier to maneuver and transport. She also noted the P Series’ safety features such as an advanced safety lock system to prevent accidental operation and a one-piece metal handle tube for better control, switch, and cord security.
