Floor Care: A Healthy Shine

Company Website

When Richard Sanchez, a cleaning and maintenance engineer with Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Santa Rosa, CA, decided to start a cleaning company about 10 years ago, he only wanted to clean doctor’s offices, clinics, and healthcare centers.

“Medical facilities have several things in common,” says Sanchez, regarding his facility type of choice. “[For example,] they all want their tile floors glistening. But recently, many have indicated they want the shine, but not if it harms indoor air quality.”

The problem is that when conventional buffers or burnishers polish a floor, they are “sanding” the floor’s top surface, which removes marks and stains as well as restores the shine, but they also release quite a bit of dust into the air.

“The dust is not healthy for the cleaning worker and if it is contaminated, the germs and bacteria can become airborne—potentially creating a serious problem for all building occupants,” explains Sanchez.

To help protect indoor health and meet his customers’ requests, Sanchez turned to his local distributor for help. Although several floor machines are now available with vacuum systems to trap dust and contaminants, his distributor said one machine topped them all: the Ultra High Speed Glazer 2000™ from Tornado Industries.

The Glazer 2000 has a deck shroud and twin-filters for dust-free operation to protect IAQ. And, the filters are easily removed for cleaning.

But the Glazer 2000 is not only good for health—it’s good for floors too! With variable RPMs (700 to 1500), these machines clean and polish all types of hard-surface floors. “With the Glazer 2000, all my customers’ floors have the ‘wet-look’ medical facilities want,” says Sanchez. “And, they do it with health and the environment in mind.”
