There is increased demand for battery-powered equipment, thanks to itís safety features and indoor air attributes. But, there are a variety of battery options for purchasers to choose from.
For instance, flooded lead acid batteries are the oldest and often least expensive option. They include a solution known as electrolyte, which is 65 percent water and 35 percent sulfuric acid.
The second battery option are the gelled electrolyte batteries, which have a thickening agent, such as fumed silica that changes the electrolyte from liquid to gel. This makes the battery safer and stable, as it is able to withstand extreme temperatures, shock and vibration that lead acid batteries cannot.
Lastly, absorbed glass mat batteries are considered the safest of the three types because they are sealed so the acid doesnít move around, so they can be installed at any angle. Though absorbed glass mat batteries are typically more expensive, they do have a longer life cycle than lead acid batteries and can be more cost efficient if cared for properly.
